Bowe Bell + Howell certifes Kofax VRS 4.2 Professional

BÖWE BELL + HOWELL has certified the latest version of Kofax’s VirtualReScan® (VRS) technology for its line of reliable and easy-to-use production scanners after an intense round of testing.VRS 4.2 builds on many of VRS 4.1’s image enhancement and efficiency-boosting features that help users get picture-perfect digital images while reducing the need for manual intervention in the scanning process.BBH worked closely with Kofax to ensure that the Professional and Basic versions of VRS 4.2 are fully compatible with its high-volume Spectrum XF Series, low-volume Truper Series and Sidekick, its desktop scanning series.
The Spectrum XF Series, which scans at 140 pages per minute, will soon come bundled with VRS 4.2 Professional. Onboard hardware VRS on the Spectrum XF Series allows users to scan in color just as efficiently as scanning in bitonal or grayscale. Onboard VRS will help BBH customers use VRS 4.2 Professional’s image enhancement and interactive problem resolution functionality without sacrificing scanning speed.
The Truper 3200 low-volume production scanner also will come packaged with VRS 4.2 Professional. The rotary-only Truper 3600 will continue to offer customers an option to buy their scanner packaged with either VRS 4.2 Basic or Professional technology.
VRS Builds on 4.1 with New and Improved Features. VRS 4.2 Professional improves on a number of image and productivity enhancement features introduced with VRS 4.1 and adds new features like Desktop Productivity. Working in sync with all certified BBH scanners, VRS 4.2 Professional reduces document prep time and produces consistently clear and accurate digital images.
VRS 4.2 Professional includes an improved version of Advanced Clarity. Introduced in VRS 4.1, this feature creates readable digital images out of hard-to-scan documents like blueprints, schematics, checks, crumpled documents and any paper documents with dense or textured backgrounds. Clear images mean faster, more accurate processing, and better intelligent character recognition (ICR) and optical character recognition (OCR) rates. An improved Auto Orientation feature allows users to forego the time-consuming process of manually turning pages to the correct orientation before scanning.

The new Desktop Productivity feature enables users to scan, correct, save and distribute documents directly from their email program instead of having to switch to a separate scanning application. Using the Fast Scan feature, VRS 4.2 Professional users can scan, enhance images, name files and attach the scanned image to an email for quick and easy distribution.

VRS 4.2 also supports Windows Vista and includes improved TWAIN compatibility and an expanded list of supported image storage and compression file formats.

Free Upgrades for BBH Customers
All certified BBH scanners will ship with VRS 4.2 starting later this year. Current owners of BBH scanners equipped with VRS 4.1 Professional and Basic can get a free upgrade to the corresponding versions of VRS 4.2 at www.bbhscanners.com/support.

All other users with VRS 4.0 or lower also can find ways to upgrade to VRS 4.2 at www.bbhscanners.com/support. Paid upgrades to VRS 4.2 Professional are available directly from Kofax resellers.

Canon Releases New VRS Option for Canon’s DR-X10C Production Scanner

Canon, a leading provider of digital imaging technology, announces the release of a controller board option for Canon’s DR-X10C High-Speed Color Production Scanner that can leverage Kofax’s VirtualReScan (VRS) functionality.
The Canon DR-X10C is designed for high-volume, paper intensive environments with an impressive suggested daily volume of 60,000 scans, and scanning speeds up to 128 pages-per-minute (ppm) and 256 images-per-minute (ipm)Kofax VRS improves the accuracy of data captured from scanned documents that are processed by intelligent character recognition (ICR) and optical character recognition (OCR) technology, significantly reducing the need for manual corrections. VRS performs a real-time, multi-point inspection of the images created as documents pass through a scanner, identifying and correcting any impairments that could impact ICR’s and OCR’s ability to read them correctly.

The Kofax CGA Board option implements the VRS capabilities via hardware allowing users to complete scanning tasks at high speeds for the VRS features selected.

“The Canon image DR-X10C scanner spearheads Canon’s DR-Series Scanners,” said Jim Rosetta, vice president and general manager, Imaging Systems Group, Canon U.S.A. “The combination of Canon’s digital scanners and Kofax’s VRS technology will help maximize scanning performance in high-volume environments.”

According to Andrew Pery, Kofax’s chief marketing officer,“Image quality significantly impacts the success of data extraction, recognition and retrieval.  By incorporating the Kofax VRS into the Canon imageFORMULA scanner, Canon and Kofax can help users reduce the time involved in manual document preparation and dramatically enhance the quality of their scanned images.”

The Kofax VRS Kit for Canon DR-X10C scanners, which includes the Kofax CGA controller board and CD containing VRS software designed specifically for the Canon DR-X10C, is available now.
